In the United States, about 35 million men are enduring some degree of hair loss, and by the age of 50, as many as 85% of men will have significantly thinning hair. That is why so many men are choosing hair replacement surgery to naturally regrow the hair they have lost over the years. There are two popular methods for transplanting hair: Follicular Unit Strip Surgery and Follicular Unit Extraction.

Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS)

Process: A strip of tissue from a non-balding area is surgically removed and individually transplanted in incisions to the balding areas.

Advantages: This procedure is generally priced on a per graft basis, so the patient only pays for what he needs rather than a flat rate that could end up costing more.

Disadvantages: Some patients report more pain and discomfort with the FUSS procedure due to swelling where the strip of tissue was removed. FUSS also typically results in scars on the back of the head.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Process: In FUE hair transplant surgery, each follicular unit is removed directly from the scalp without a strip of tissue being removed.

Advantages: Hair follicles can be removed from anywhere, so a whole patch does not need to be taken from one area. This allows the donor area to retain fullness. Furthermore, there is no scarring and healing occurs much quicker. There is also very little discomfort compared to FUSS.

Disadvantages: FUE hair transplant surgery can be slightly more expensive than FUSS, but it does depend on each patient.

Follicular Unit Extraction is the preferred method for hair transplant and restoration. It is less invasive and has a lower complication rate than Follicular Unit Strip Surgery. A typical FUE procedure takes only eight hours to complete, and can be done in one sitting with a healing time of just a few days.

FUE surgery allows you to grow your own hair naturally. By the age of 35, two-thirds of American men experience some level of baldness, but with hair transplant surgery, they can prevent it from progressing. The procedure is simple, quick, and effective, and extremely safe.
